Blue-Spotted Cornetfish

Latin Name: Fistularia tabacaria

General Size:  30" x 2"

The Bluespotted Cornetfish is a decidedly different looking fish. This very long and slender reef dweller is in the family Fistulariidae which is also the same order as the pipefishes and seahorses. Its skeletal structures are as equally fascinating as its spectacular color and design. It has particularly large eyes and hunts for other fishes and small invertebrates. This species is found virtually the entire length of the coast line on the Western Atlantic as well as the entire western coast of Africa. More often than not this fish is found alone and can be seen at depths of up to 200m.
