Atlantic Big Eye

Latin Name:  Priacanthus arenatus

General Size:  14" x 6"

The big eyes are found in the Family Priacanthidae and are named as such due to their nocturnal feeding habits. Large eyes aid these fish in gathering as much ambient light as possible while roaming reefs at night searching for small fishes, crustaceans and polychaetes. Big eyes are found primarily in the Eastern and Western Atlantic with some representation in the Mediterranean.
