Great Barracuda

Latin Name:  Sphyraena barracuda

General Size:  48" x 8.5"

One of only 18 species in the Family Sphyraenidae the Great Barracuda is an ever-present character on worldwide reefs. Barracudas are most often observed alone however they will form small groups at certain times. These extremely fast predators feed on fishes and cephalopods. They can reach up to a least 5.5 feet in length but their meat should be avoided for consumption as they often harbor ciguatera toxin.
