Ocean Triggerfish

Latin Name:  Canthidermis sufflamen

General Size:  14" x 11"

The ocean triggerfish is widely known as the ocean tally. These triggers can be found in the Balistidae family and are one of 40 species in that family. They are fairly aggressive fish and are unique with respect to their habit of creating nests on the sandy bottom and defending their egg mass from predators. The ocean triggerfish is observed mostly in the water column which is in contrast to its cousin, the gray triggerfish, which remains near the bottom.
