The red-bellied piranha is well known for its purported
ability to rapidly strip the flesh off large animals
while in schools.
As can be seen here the teeth are relatively large and
very sharp and are well equipped for flesh removal however
they primarily
feed on insects, worms and other fish. This species
can be found in the Family Characida which includes
776 species and is primarily
South American. Piranha typically won’t exceed 19 inches
and 8.5 pounds.
