One of many Lutjanidae members the silk snapper can be found in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans as far north as Canada and as far south as Brazil. This species inhabits relatively deeper waters in comparison to other snappers and feeds on fishes, shrimps, crabs, marine snails, squid and tunicates. Typically associated with continental shelves these snappers tend to ascend to shallow depths at night to feed.
