Striped Bass

Latin Name:  Marone saxatilis

General Size:  16" x 8"

The Striped Bass (Family Moronidae) are commonly referred to as "Stripers" and are found in the coastal waters of the Western Atlantic. These voracious predators are targeted by many fishermen (especially surfcasters) along the coast from Canada to the Northern portion of the Gulf of Mexico. They feed primarily on crustaceans but frequently feed on other prey such as squid and various fish. Striped Bass make for an excellent game fish as they can be caught in both freshwater as well as salt.
